Have You Gotten Around to Rotating Your Tires Yet?

Each and every month, the Tom Peacock Cadillac Service Center sees hundreds of tires worn out long before they should have. In almost all of these instances, the tires would have lasted much longer if the owners would have followed the tire manufacturers' recommendations on tire rotation.
So what is tire rotation?
Tire rotation is the practice of moving the wheels and tires of a vehicle from one position to another to ensure even tire wear, which is desirable and necessary to extend the useful life of a set of tires.
The weight of a vehicle's axles differs between the front and rear, which causes uneven wear over time. Front-wheel drive vehicles not only have the engine up front, but also the transmission and axle assemblies, adding to the weight differential. This extra weight means additional stress is disproportionately placed on the front tires by braking and steering. Because of this, front-wheel drive vehicles should have their tires rotated more frequently.
All the major tire manufacturers recommend tire rotation starting at 5,000 miles, although there are some that stretch it to 6,000 miles, so it's a good idea to perform a tire rotation every time you get an oil change. If you want to know what the recommended rotation schedule is on your tires, simply contact us, and we can answer any of your questions. You can also schedule your service online if you're ready for new tires.
